Expanding Horizons

The Expanding Horizons Programme offers opportunities for people to come together to take part in creative and social activities. The groups allow people to enjoy creative activities, learn new skills, and come together with other people with similar life experiences. A range of groups are provided both in-person and online.

The Expanding Horizons programme changes over time based on the interests of our service users and volunteers.

Creative Writing: Clients meet weekly online and write about a theme that has been either discussed the week before or is decided upon on the day; prose or poetry or just word association sees the group through for an hour.

“Lost Sound

Rain like drops of silver fell,

Poured but, could not reach me.

Why I could not speak or tell,

My voice like rivers once a sea.”

Art: Face to face art sessions in different mediums, led by a local artist.

Online Art Appreciation: Online sessions where an artist will discuss a genre, artist, or a contemporary exhibition in London that she has visited.

Crafts: Bi-weekly sessions on various mediums that may include clay, paper, tiles, wood; all suited to clients with varying needs.

Communication Friendly Groups: Lead by our Speech and Language Therapist, we have developed a range of groups suitable for people with communication difficulties such as Local History and Music Appreciation.

Online Coffee and Conversation: A safe space to converse on Zoom on non-political issues in a structured manner for an hour.

Outdoor trips: INS also organises boat trips, and visits to Kew Gardens and Brentford Football club among other activities.

Singing: Face to face group singing sessions open to all abilities, led by a professional music teacher.

Gardening: A great way to be outdoors doing exercise and getting fresh air.
