Staff information

We are a team of specialist physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and social workers. The team works with people in groups and individually; at home, at INS and in the community. All therapists and social workers are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the relevant professional bodies.
***
Physiotherapists:
  • look at the way you move, and discuss related problems
  • help you when your balance and movement are affected by a neurological condition
  • suggest exercises and techniques to practise
  • encourage you to try out community-based exercise opportunities e.g. visiting your local gym
Occupational Therapists (OT):
  • enable you to do the activities that are important to you
  • discuss your physical, cognitive and emotional needs
  • practise different ways of doing the tasks you need or want to do
  • advise you on how to manage symptoms such as memory problems or fatigue
  • suggest how your home environment can be adapted
  • encourage you to take part in community and leisure activities
Speech and Language Therapist (SLT):
Our Speech and Language Therapist can carry-out assessment and diagnosis of communication, voice and swallowing difficulties, and offer the following support:
  • discuss your concerns about speech and communication
  • provide information about how a neurological condition might affect your communication
  • advise you on how to make communication more effective
  • suggest practical tips to improve communication
  • help you find alternative ways to communicate if speech is difficult
Social Worker:
  • work with you to identify the support you need
  • support you with planning for the future and regularly review your needs
  • advocate on your behalf
  • assist you with benefit and other applications
  • put you in contact with other relevant services
  • provide services for the carers of people with neurological conditions e.g. support groups
Counsellors:
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues. It is a process that occurs when a client and counsellor set aside time in order to explore difficulties which may include the stressful or emotional feelings of the client. It is the act of helping the client to see things more clearly, possibly from a different view-point.
***
This can enable the client to focus on feelings, experiences or behaviour, with a goal to facilitating positive change. Counselling is not, giving advice or attempting to sort out the problems of the client.

  • Working for INS

    Come and join our team.

  • What is a neurological condition?

A neurological condition is a disease, illness or trauma that affects the central or peripheral nervous system. Examples of symptoms include paralysis, tremor, cognitive difficulties, muscle weakness, poor coordination, loss of sensation, seizures, confusion, pain and altered levels of consciousness.

  • Our Staff Team

The INS Team includes 13 staff, both full-time and part-time, with generous support from our many volunteers. Sarah Vines began work at INS in August 2020 as our Chief Executive and Clinical Lead.

  • Groups and activities

INS offers a variety of long term and short-term groups. Some of these groups are for people with a specific neurological condition, while others are open to all neurological conditions. Our groups focus on different areas; some are exercise based, others focus on managing symptoms, while others provide you with an opportunity to try out different activities.

  • Volunteer opportunities

INS welcomes anybody who is willing to offer their skills and some of their time to assist us in all areas of our work. We already have a team of invaluable volunteers who help us in many ways but we are currently looking for more support.

  • Where we work

Integrated Neurological Services (INS) provides support primarily to people who live in the London boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow. However, we may still be able to offer support to people living just outside this area (eg. in Kingston, Wandsworth, Ealing) who are within reach of our base in Twickenham.

  • Donate

Your donation can make a difference to the lives of people with a neurological condition. Donate, hold an event, take part in a challenge - whatever you can do will make a difference.
