Professional Teams & Skilled Volunteers
At INS we work as an integrated team of professionals to support clients and carers with every aspect of their daily lives. Our services are delivered by specialist physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and rehab assistants. INS is also supported by over 40 skilled volunteers.
Social Work
Our team of social workers work with clients and carers to ensure practical, emotional and social support is provided. This may be achieved through a variety of means, such as:
- Providing help and emotional support for clients and carers in adjusting to their current situation
- Planning for the future
- Advocacy
- Assistance with benefits entitlement applications
- Informing clients and carers of legislative changes that may affect them
- Effective signposting to relevant and necessary services
Our social work team also facilitate support groups for the carers of people with neurological conditions and co-ordinate a specialist befriending service.
Occupational Therapy
Our team of specialist occupational therapists work closely with clients and carers to maximise independence in all areas of occupational performance:
- Personal and self-care tasks
- Domestic activities
- Community living skills
- Access to education/work
- Meaningful leisure occupations
- Social participation
To achieve success, different approaches may be used. These include:
- Adapting the home or work environment, including the provision of equipment and overseeing major adaptations
- Teaching techniques and strategies to manage symptoms, tasks and activities effectively
- Exploring new activities that are meaningful to the individual
Occupational therapy sessions can be provided in whichever location suits the client and the specific issue to be addressed. These may be provided by an occupational therapist, or jointly with a rehab assistant, physiotherapist or social worker.
Physiotherapy
Our team of specialist neuro-physiotherapists can help clients when they have any difficulties with:
- Balance and mobility
- Movement
- Muscle weakness
- Muscle and joint stiffness
- Pain
- Reduced fitness and stamina
Physiotherapy sessions can be provided in a variety of settings, dependent on the individually assessed need of the client. This may include individual sessions at home or at an INS therapy gym, in the local community, in group-based exercise programmes or joint sessions with a physiotherapist together with other members of the team, such as a rehab assistant or occupational therapist.
We encourage clients to practice activities and skills outside of physiotherapy sessions within everyday situations and in different environments. The aim is to work with clients to help them regain as much independence as possible and to maintain this through regular participation in everyday activities.
