Watch and listen to what our clients say about INS

Multiple Sclerosis

  • “My discovery of INS has turned desperation into opportunity and achievement. I have met up with people who listen, understand and can help.” A young person with MS
  • “Without the support of INS through the Befriending Scheme, Angela’s disease would have taken over her life completely. They gave her back what she thought she had lost forever – quality of life.” Daughter of a person with MS
  • “People at INS really understand your condition. The range of disciplines ‘in house’ and their wealth of experience enables them to offer immediate practical help and also to give guidance on where to seek other help – that’s a pretty unique combination! The common attributes – sympathetic, positive, constructive, caring – not only help solve problems they engender self-motivation too.” Person with MS

Parkinson’s Disease

  • “I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 16 years ago and have been a client of INS for about 10 years. The staff and volunteers at INS have encouraged and helped me to cope with the Parkinson’s and enjoy my life. The exercises we do, such as learning tactics for getting out of bed or a car, are invaluable. Also, meeting others with similar problems in a safe environment and being able to swap tips on coping strategies is comforting and very helpful. Although my health has deteriorated over the years I don’t believe I would cope so well if it was not for the help and encouragement of INS.” A person with Parkinson’s

Stroke

  • “The holistic approach of INS respects the individuality of the client and sessions are organised accordingly, ensuring they feel valued and listened to at all times. My husband has made incredible progress due to the care and encouragement he has received over the years. Without it he would be doing very little now because ‘once therapy stops the stroke patient stops’. The main carer (usually the spouse) is not the right person to be dealing with this and INS recognises this fact. They provide comprehensive support for the carers and families of their clients. The active Carers Support Group is a lifeline, exchanging information and ideas on all aspects of Stroke, even providing ongoing support to carers if they lose a partner for as long as they may need it. I cannot imagine how our life would be without INS.” Wife of a person who had a stroke 12 years ago
  • “Through attending INS groups, I have gained a lot more confidence in myself. People have noticed because everyone keeps saying I’m a lot more sociable; taking more care of my appearance; learning to listen properly; keeping the Health Record Book. Basically being in more control of my life. At every meeting we are asked what we have done during the week. So you feel that someone else cares. The exercises we do help, because I have become a lot more supple and my balance is a lot better. The breathing exercises have helped me to increase the volume of my voice. But the best thing of all is meeting different people and gaining some insight into what happened to them – listening and watching how they cope with their issues. I really look forward to Friday.” A young person who had a stroke
