INS is a community-based, interdisciplinary team of specialist physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and social workers. All members of the team are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the relevant professional bodies.
The team provides evidence-based therapy, information and support to people with neurological conditions. We work with people in groups and individually; at home, at INS and in the community. Click here for more information about the groups we run.
Interventions are tailored to the specific needs of the client and are responsive to changes in their condition and situation. INS has developed a person-centred approach which considers the individual as a whole, focusing on a client’s physical, cognitive and emotional needs. The team supports people to manage their condition better and to improve and maintain their quality of life. We work with carers and family members to support our clinical intervention. INS reviews and monitor clients using appropriate outcome measures.
Our work is underpinned by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (World Health Organisation, 2001). We also follow national policies, for example - National Service Frameworks and NICE guidelines. The INS team is a proactive partner in developing clinical pathways locally.
INS provides training to medical students from St George’s University of London. Many of our clients and carers act as expert patients in these sessions, giving talks and speaking individually to students. INS offers student placements to trainee therapists. We also deliver a range of training sessions to carers, volunteers and partner organisations.
